Dometic Marine, a division of Dometic Group, a global provider of leisure products for the marine, truck, caravan, motor home and automotive markets, has unveiled its new, dedicated team of ship-wide ventilation experts, who specialize in providing customized design, engineering support and consultation services to the global marine industry.
Led by Dometic application engineers Neil Norton and Nelson Frolund, the Dometic Marine ship-wide ventilation team will focus exclusively on designing and implementing installation of smoke and fire dampers, axial fans and blowers, mist eliminators and accessories for boat builders, integrators and owners. The products are designed to improve safety, extend engine life, optimize performance and efficiency for oil and gas vessels, tugs, OSVs, military vessels, ferry boats, cruise ships, superyachts, crew boats, pilot boats, patrol boats, fireboats and more.
The Dometic ship-wide ventilation product line includes:

  • Smoke and A60 Fire Damper.  Dampers close off the engine space in the event of a fire. The lack of fresh air in conjunction with the release of fire retardant can snuff out a fire and save a boat from possibly burning to the waterline. Dampers come in both marine-grade aluminum and stainless steel.
  • Axial Fan, DC Fans and Blowers.  Commercial-grade axial fans and centrifugal blowers provide cooling and/or combustion air for marine machinery spaces. Materials are chosen with corrosion resistance and weight in mind. Blades are constructed of high-strength PPG glass-reinforced polyamide, with standard powder coating of the fan housing. Fan motors are high efficiency, direct drive, and reversible. All hardware is either marine-grade aluminum or 316 stainless steel.
  • Mist Eliminators. Mist-eliminating grilles stop corrosive salt mist and water from entering the engine room. Each mist eliminator is custom designed for maximum air flow and minimum restriction for a given machinery package, taking into consideration air flow and dimensional restrictions. There are four mist-eliminator drainage options: bottom draining, face draining, horizontal and sump draining.
  • Pressure and Temperature Monitoring Fan Controls. Controls are available for three-phase fans and blowers, as well as 24 VDC fans. They can be manual variable speed, temperature controlled, pressure controlled, or pressure and temperature controlled. DC controls are temperature based. All controls come standard with fire system shutdowns. Three-phase systems can also have fire damper control. Interface with central monitoring systems is optional.

Dometic ship-wide ventilation solutions work seamlessly with other Dometic equipment, connected wirelessly via the Dometic Smart Touch Integrated Intelligence Control (STIIC). STIIC is software that connects all of a vessel’s Dometic systems – such as engine ventilation, air conditioning, watermakers, sanitation systems and refrigeration systems – and allows crew members to control and monitor diagnostics from a mobile device.
