Jörg Beiderbeck, recognized as a figure among the world’s top megayacht designers, has passed away at the age of 69 on the evening of Sunday, August 2, at his home in Bremen-Vegesack, after a long illness. He leaves behind his long-term partner as well as a son and a daughter. beiderbeck designs GmbH has lost not only the man who gave it its name, but one of its four partners. Tunisia Reassures Yachters Following Terror Attack

A week after a terrorist attack in Tunisia, local superyacht businesses are reassuring yachters that security has been increased at Tunisian ports despite numerous cancellations. The attack saw a gunman with alleged links to Islamic State extremists open fire on a tourist beach near Sousse, Tunisia, killing 38, including at least 29 Britons, and injuring at least 39 others. Despite the upped security and the government’s involvement, The UK Foreign Office has updated its travel advice to warn that further terrorist attacks in Tunisia are possible and are urging people to be vigilant.

Cruise Ships Cancel Tunisia Calls in Wake of Islamic Terrorists Attack

Cruise lines like Holland America, MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Star Clippers, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Aida Cruises have canceled all port stops to Tunisia for the rest of the year following the jihadist terrorist attack and massacre in the capital March 18th. Seventeen cruisers from Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises ships visiting Tunis for the day were killed in Wednesday's attack, which took place at the city's Bardo National Museum. Sailboat Atlantic Record Contender Waits in Newport

Following an 8-day trial voyage from La Trinité-sur-Mer (France), during which substantial information was obtained, Spindrift 2, the maxi-trimaran, has arrived at Rhode Island harbour, and waits for favorable weather before attacking the North Atlantic sailboat record. Co-skippers Dona Bertarelli and Yann Guichard and their crew now enter the critical phase of meticulously monitoring the weather. They must wait for the best window to launch their attempt to break the crewed North Atlantic record between New York and Lizard Point (England).

The concept of force majeure has been broadly accepted since mariners initially encountered the perils of the sea.
