Damen Lays Keel for 77-meter Expedition Yacht
On July 27 DAMEN SeaXplorer marked a milestone in the construction of the SeaXplorer 77 expedition yacht at a keel laying ceremony at Damen Shipyards Galati on the banks of the Danube. The owner attended the ceremony and welded the traditional coin on the keel. Following the hull building phase, the 77-meter luxury expedition yacht (253 ft) will arrive at Damen’s Vlissingen East yard in the Netherlands for completion and on-schedule delivery in Q4 2020.The SeaXplorer 77 is a customized design from the DAMEN SeaXplorer range.
Team AkzoNobel Completes Volvo Ocean Race
Recently, team AkzoNobel completed its first Volvo Ocean Race, concluding the final leg in second place and finishing fourth overall. The team finished on the podium on six of the eleven legs.During the race, the team was supported by two Damen Workshop Containers. The two containers leapfrogged each other across the 11-legs and 83,000 km of the round-the-world race, ensuring that team AkzoNobel had onshore support every step of the way.The provision of workshop containers was a natural way for Damen to offer support to the team.
Heesen Delivers Omaha
Yacht builder Heesen announced the delivery of the first yacht in its new 50 meter Steel Class, Omaha.YN 18350, christened Omaha, has been delivered to her owners following intensive sea trials in the North Sea in favorable weather conditions, with seas ranging from calm to moderate.Omaha exceeded the contractual speed, reaching 16 knots, and proved to be extremely maneuverable in all conditions thanks to her large rudders in combination with the power steering unit. Powered by two MTU 8V4000 M63 engines, she has a range of 3,800 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots.
Oceanco's Jubilee Honored
Oceanco’s 110 meter motoryacht Jubilee has won the 2018 International Yacht and Aviation Award for the Best Power Yacht Design in the over 80 meter category.With exterior styling by Lobanov Design and interior by Sorgiovanni Design, Jubilee is the largest yacht ever built by Oceanco, and was also the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands at the time of her launch. The awards ceremony took place on May 19th in Venice. Igor and Yulia Lobanov of Lobanov Design were on hand to receive the award along with Oceanco’s Group Marketing Manager Paris Baloumis.
