Suntex Acquires Hurricane Marina

Suntex Marina Investors, LLC (Suntex) announced the acquisition of Hurricane Marina, located on Center Hill Lake in Silver Point, Tennessee. With the change in ownership, Hurricane Marina received a new 25-year lease with the United States Army Corps of Engineers and also extended the lease of the existing restaurant tenant, Blue Water Grille. Hurricane Marina lies on a natural, protected harbor approximately 70 miles east of Nashville, and consists of 600 wet slips (48 of which were built in 2015), 40 personal watercraft slips and 25 enclosed boathouse slips.

Denison Yacht Sales Opens New Locations

Adding to its roster of marina office locations at popular yachting destinations, Denison Yacht Sales has announced the opening of its four newest office locations. In Annapolis, Md. at Annapolis Landing Marina, located near the Chesapeake Bay, this new Denison office is led by yacht broker, Lloyd Cooper, and is in the heart of the maritime district of Annapolis, with several major boatyards nearby. MarineMax Adds New Jersey Location

MarineMax announced it will open a new location at The Channel Club Marina in Monmouth Beach, N.J. “We are excited about the opportunity to better serve our customers in the Monmouth Beach and surrounding area,” explained Matthew Cini, MarineMax Manager. ABC Draws 35 Industry Organizations as Co-hosts

The 2016 American Boating Congress (ABC) will be co-hosted by 35 industry organizations, working together to create a dynamic and engaging program that meets the needs of the entire recreational boating industry. Now in its fourth year, the ABC co-host program brings together organizations across all industry segments to strengthen recreational boating’s collective advocacy impact. These organizations have committed their time and resources in order to develop an event that will create a louder voice for recreational boating on Capitol Hill. ABC will be held in Washington, DC on May 9-11, 2016.

USCG Rescues 4 from Capsized Vessel

A rescue crew from U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, New Jersey saved four people after their 20-foot pleasure craft capsized near the Shrewsbury River Entrance, off of Sea Bright, New Jersey, Sunday. At approximately 3:30 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook received a distress call from a boat operator, via cell phone, stating his pleasure craft was taking on water and requested assistance near the Shrewsbury River Entrance. The rescue crew from Station Sandy Hook immediately launched aboard their 47-foot motor lifeboat and arrived on scene at 3:50 p.m., as the pleasure craft capsized, causing the four people to enter the water.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry Celebrates 50th

In 1964, Lyndon B. Johnson was President; the Beatles first appeared on the Billboard Chart with I Want to Hold Your Hand; the World's Fair opened in New York and the Cape May-Lewes Ferry made its grand debut. On July 1, 1964, the very first ferry vessel departed the Lewes, Delaware terminal at 6:47 a.m. The ferry carried eight vehicles and 15 passengers. Since then, more than 43 million passengers and over 14 million vehicles have made the scenic, 17- mile, 85-minute trip across Delaware Bay to and from Victorian Cape May, NJ and historic Lewes, Delaware.

Three Sailors Rescued 1,200 miles off Cape Cod

The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a rescue of three sailors approximately 1,200 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at approximately 2 p.m., Thursday. Watchstanders from the 1st Coast Guard District command center in Boston were notified at approximately 6 a.m., Thursday, of a 406MHz emergency position indicating radio beacon signal registered to the 42-foot French-flagged sailing vessel Tao with three men aboard. A Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew currently deployed to St. John's, Nova Scotia, immediately launched to locate the Tao.

Partnerships showcase growing industry-wide commitment advocacy, unity on Capitol Hill. In 2013, the American Boating Congress (ABC) was co-hosted by 31 industry organizations who worked together to create a dynamic and engaging program, that met the needs of the entire recreational boating industry. This year, driven by 2013’s success, 36 industry partners have agreed to co-host ABC, answering the call to strengthen the industry’s collective advocacy impact. ABC will be held in Washington, DC on May 5-7, 2014.

The U.S. Maritime Administration invites small shipyards to apply for a share of $9.45 million in federal funding to help enhance their efficiency & competitiveness. The grants are available for capital and related improvement projects that foster efficiency and competitive operations; quality ship construction, repair and reconfiguration; and employee training.
