Pure Watercraft Unveils Battery Pack

Pure Watercraft, manufacturer of the Pure Outboard electric motor, says it has launched "the most energy dense battery pack available in marine propulsion".The Seattle-based company says its new battery pack has a capacity of 8.85 kWh (47 percent more capacity than the previous model) and active thermal management, enabling faster planing, longer range, and extended operation at top speed.The new battery pack, which matches that of the best electric cars, was designed in-house, using lithium-ion cells from Panasonic.

ABB to Boost Superyacht Sustainability and Efficiency

A new 80-meter superyacht, built at the Nobiskrug shipyard in Germany, will feature a wide scope of ABB’s technologies that will enhance its environmental performance and help the vessel comply with the International Maritime Organization’s new Tier III regulations. MTU Brings Latest Propulsion Systems to Cannes and Monaco

Rolls-Royce is showing off its latest state-of-the-art propulsion systems and service solutions from MTU for motor and sailing yachts at this year’s yacht shows in Cannes and Monaco. At the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes, which takes place from September 12 to 17, MTU will be presenting a new close-to-production prototype hybrid system based on its 16-cylinder Series 2000 engine on Stand Jetee 179. The focus will also be on models of the Pininfarina bridge components and MTU’s Premium Yacht Service.

Volvo Penta Buys Majority Stake in Seven Marine

Volvo Penta informs it has signed an agreement to become the major owner of U.S. based outboard motor manufacturer, Seven Marine, enabling the Swedish company to extend its scope of integrated propulsion systems. “With this acquisition, Volvo Penta is entering the outboard motor segment,” said Volvo Penta president, Björn Ingemanson. Volvo Penta said the deal will broaden its technology platform, while Seven Marine will be able to further develop its existing outboard technology to satisfy a wider range of needs for its customer base.

Rolls-Royce Showcases New Yacht Engine at FLIBS

Rolls-Royce will be marketing the 10-cylinder version of its advanced MTU Series 2000 M96L yacht engine at the 2016 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from Nov. 3 to 7 . A 12-cylinder version of the engine will be showcased at MTU’s booth (engine tent 1212/1215). Also on display will be MTU’s Blue Vision New Generation ship automation with integrated Joystick System, which will allow visitors to steer a virtual yacht in a simulation.
