Superyacht Design: Are owners shifting to streamlined design and production?
Superyachts have a long history of tailor-made, special-made and unique “to the Himalaya and back” luxury solutions. The question is, will this continue, or will the current market situation make superyacht owners and builders consider streamlining some parts of the design and production in order to achieve cost-efficiency?Superyacht market experts have expressed a worry that the industry is pricing itself out of its own market and some warn that the clients will find other things to invest in if the yachts become too expensive. Personally, I think this worry is legit.
AMELS Readies 78-Meter Custom Yacht
The hull of 78-meter AMELS Full Custom yacht arrived from Damen Shipyards Galati on the Danube river in Romania.When completed in 2021, the yacht will be the largest AMELS to date.Currently 13 yachts are at the busy Vlissingen hub of the Damen Shipyards Group’s yachting division, including both the Vlissingen City yard and the Vlissingen East yard.The AMELS Full Custom yacht joins four AMELS Limited Editions yachts, two DAMEN SeaXplorers and five refits.In total we currently have 26 yacht projects underway at both our new build and hull building facilities.

Miami-Based Shipyard Adds Electronic Systems Division
Florida shipyard RMK Merrill-Stevens is adding a new Electronic Systems Division to the company.To lead the new business the company hired David Gratton, a new RMK Merrill-Stevens employee with experience in the electronics industry. Gratton’s career in electronics began in 1980 upon entering the U.S. Air Force. Gratton later worked on the environmental testing of NASA components for Teledyne Systems Company. Gratton has specialized in navigation, communications, and audio-visual, IT/networking, and PLC systems for commercial and recreational vessels.
Oceanco Contract to RH Marine
World-class superyacht builder Oceanco has awarded RH Marine with the contract for the electrical & automation system integration and overall electrical system responsibility of Oceanco’s new 100+ meter yacht. Both parties consider this collaboration to be the start of a productive long-term partnership. RH Marine is responsible for the delivery of the complete electrical & automation system. Oceanco Delivers 110-meter Jubilee
The 110-meter motor yacht Jubilee delivered last week by Dutch builder Oceanco not only features a particularly striking exterior profile created by Lobanov Design and a distinguished interior by Sorgiovanni Designs, but also is the largest yacht ever built at Oceanco and has the distinction of being the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands. “Burgess introduced this project to Oceanco and we provided technical consultancy and project management as owner’s representative throughout the entire build process,” said Joe Cic, from Burgess.
Largest Ever Dutch-built Yacht Launched
Oceanco’s newly built mega yacht Jubilee, with exterior styling by Lobanov Design, grand interior by Sorgiovanni Designs and owner’s representation by Burgess, is the largest yacht ever built in The Netherlands. At 110m length over all, 16.4m beam and just over 4,500 GT, the head-turning yacht has a sleek and original elongated profile that flows elegantly from bow to stern; with no fewer than six decks, her progressively longer horizontal lines make Jubilee distinctive. Igor Lobanov has created a unique and architecturally challenging design which creates a visual effect of multi-level decks.
Superyacht Ulysses Equipped with 8 Heavy-duty Cranes
One of the world’s largest dedicated luxury explorer yachts, the 107 meter Ulysses, is equipped with eight PALFINGER MARINE cranes in total. Two heavy duty foldable knuckle boom cranes, four extension booms (type PK 90002 M) and two smaller compact cranes. In March 2016 the yacht was delivered to her owner. Ulysses is the first private superyacht undertaken by Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven and reaches a top speed of 16 knots. Ulysses can accommodate 60 guests over seven decks and offers amenities including a helicopter landing pad, helicopter garage and a swimming pool.

OceanLED Names Ambrose Account Manager
